Happy Birthday to Countess Sussie of Rosenborg! Born Sussie Hjorhøy Petersen, she grew up in Østerbro, and trained as a lawyer before she married former Prince Ingolf of Denmark, eldest son of Hereditary Prince Knud and Hereditary Princess Caroline-Mathilde and the cousin of Queen Margrethe, who lost his Princely style for marrying a commoner in 1969 and is today known as Count Ingolf of Rosenborg. Prince Ingolf was once 2nd-in-line to the Danish Throne, after his father, but the 1953 Constitution and Act of Succession put his cousins, the daughters of King Frederik IX, in the line of succession ahead of Hereditary Prince Knud and his sons, which caused a deep rift within the two brothers. The couple met during the settlement of Hereditary Princess Caroline-Mathilde’s estate, and got married in 1998. Count Ingolf and Countess Sussie are regularly seen at major Danish Royal Family events, and reside on the Egeland Estate. We wish Her Excellency a very Happy Birthday and Many Happy Returns!
