The Funeral of the Countess of Barcelona, mother of King Juan Carlos of Spain, in a service at the Royal Chapel of the Royal Palace of Madrid, followed by a public mass at the Almudena Cathedral in Madrid, and the burial at the Royal Pantheon of the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial on this day in 2000, in a Crypt reserved for Sovereign Kings and Queens, reflecting her special status as Queen in Exile.

In addition to members of the extended Spanish Royal Family, Royal Guests included Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands, Queen Noor of Jordan, Queen Fabiola of Belgium, Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg, Tsar Simeon II and Queen Margarita of Bulgaria, the Prince of Wales, Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, Prince Albert of Monaco, Princess Christina of Sweden, Prince Hamza of Jordan, the Crown Prince of Nepal, and Prince Moulay Hassan of Morocco.
