King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden (wearing the Order of the Seraphim) was joined by Princess Christina (in the Baden Fringe Tiara, Napoleonic Amethyst Parure and the Order of the Seraphim) and Prince Bertil as he presided over the 1974 Swedish State Opening of Parliament (Riksdag) in the Hall of State of the Royal Palace of Stockholm on this day in 1974, which was the first State Opening of King Carl XVI Gustaf’s Reign, and the final grand State Opening, ahead of the 1974 constitution which abolished the grand ceremony and the opening ceremony now takes place at the Riksdag building.
