The Christening of Prince Nikolaos of Greece, second son of King Constantine II and Queen Anne Marie, in Rome on this day in 1969. Royal relatives and godparents in attendance included King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid of Denmark (maternal grandparents), Queen Frederica of Greece (paternal grandmother), Princess Sofia of Spain (aunt, godmother), Princess Irene of Greece (aunt, godmother), Crown Princess Margareta of Romania (cousin, godmother), and Crown Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia (cousin, godfather), and Prince and Princess Michael of Greece. The service was a marked contrast to the Christenings of his sister, Princess Alexia, and brother, Crown Prince Pavlos, which were splendidly celebrated in Athens.
Note- Despite extensive research, I have been unable to find the exact date for the Christening of Prince Nikolaos, except that it was sometime in November 1969, so I choose the day that made the most sense given the timeframe after his birth.
Billed-Bladet last year wrote the christening was on 1 February 1970. They ought to know.
Ignore the previous message: Billed-Bladet says he was christened in February 1970, no exact date given.
Thank you for your comments! I’ll make a note of that in my files and also update this article!
