Soon after Grace Kelly’s arrival in Monaco and not long before their wedding, Prince Rainier III  presented this Van Cleef & Arpels Brooch which features a cluster of sapphire surrounded by diamond petals which form a daisy, the stones of which reported belonged to Maria Caterina Salѐ, a wealthy Genoese Heiress married to Prince Honoré III of Monaco in the 18th century. The stones were used by Van Cleef & Arpels to form a Brooch for his bride.

Princess Grace regularly wore her Van Cleef & Arpels Sapphire Daisy Brooch for casual daytime events, formal evening events, for many portraits, and even in her hair, up until her untimely death in 1982.

  1. This was a beautiful brooch. The Sapphire, really was a glorious blue, depending on what the Princess wore, it always looked so effective. As in the examples of the 4 photos above. She was a beautifully groomed woman, the very essence of elegance and grace.
