Wedding of Countess Mountbatten and Baron Brabourne, 1946

The Wedding of the Hon. Patricia Mountbatten (wearing the Mountbatten Pearl and Diamond Star Tiara), elder daughter of Lord and Lady Mountbatten, and the 7th Baron Brabourne at Romsey Abbey on this day in 1946.  The couple had eight children and Lady Brabourne succeeded as the 2nd Countess Mountbatten in 1979, after the assassination of her father, his mother, and their young son. The couple, one of few in which both members were Peers in their own right, remained happily married until his death in 2005. The Countess passed away in 2017.

Royal Guests and Relatives included King George VI (cousin of the bride) and Queen Mary, Princess Elizabeth (bridesmaid) and Princess Margaret (bridesmaid), Princess Victoria, Marchioness of Milford Haven (grandmother of the bride), Prince Phillip of Greece (cousin, whose romance to Princess Elizabeth was publicly revealed at the Wedding), Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, Princess Alexandra of Kent (bridesmaid), the Dowager Lady Brabourne (mother of groom) and Agatha, Marchioness of Sligo (grandmother of groom).
