Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in Pakistan

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are on an Official Visit to Pakistan at the request of the British Foreign Office, from October 14-17, to promote and celebrate British-Pakistani ties. The visit will pay respect to the historical relationship between Britain and Pakistan, but will largely focus on showcasing Pakistan as it is today — a dynamic, aspirational and forward-looking nation. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have arrived in Pakistan! The Duke and Duchess’s first official visit to the country will pay respect to the historical relationship between Britain and Pakistan, but will largely focus on showcasing Pakistan as it is today — a dynamic, aspirational and forward-looking nation. From the modern leafy capital Islamabad, to the vibrant city of Lahore, the mountainous countryside in the North, and the rugged border regions to the West, the visit will span over 1000km, and will take in Pakistan’s rich culture, its diverse communities, and its beautiful landscapes.

On October 15th, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the Islamabad Model College for Girls (my mother’s old school), a government run school benefitting from the Teach for Pakistan programme based on the UK’s Teach First scheme, to highlight higher education for girls, followed by a visit to Margalla Hills to join children from local schools and take part in a number of activities, including setting up a Leopard camera trap, which highlight Pakistan’s work to meet several of the Sustainable Development Goals.

In the evening, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a Reception, after arriving on a rickshaw, hosted by the British High Commissioner at the Pakistan Monument, where the Duke gave a speech, saying:

We share unique bonds, so it will always be in our best interests for Pakistan to succeed. Not least because of the 1.5 million people living in the UK with Pakistani origin, and the fact that the UK is one of the biggest investors in Pakistan’s economy. You can always rely on the UK to play an important role as a key partner and friend”.

For the arrival, the Duchess wore a blue ombre Catherine Walker outfit, inspired by the traditional Pakistani Shalwar Kameez, with Zeen earrings. The following morning, she wore a Maheen Khan kurta, pajama, and dupatta, with repeated Zeen earringschanging into Maheen Khan trousers, a Catherine Walker tunic and a  Satrangi dupatta. For the reception, the Duchess wore a Jenny Packham Gown while the Duke wore a Naushemian Sherwani. Go read my comments to the South China Morning Post about the outfits.
