Wedding of Prince Knud and Princess Caroline-Mathilde of Denmark, 1933

The Wedding of Prince Knud of Denmark (wearing the Order of the Elephant), second son of King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine of Denmark (in her Fringe Tiara and Sapphire Pendants), and Princess Caroline-Mathilde of Denmark, daughter of Prince Harald of Denmark and Princess Helena of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, in the Chapel of Fredensborg Palace on this day in 1933. Royal Attendees included Crown Prince Gustaf Adolf and Crown Princess Louise of Sweden (in Queen Sofia’s 9-Prong Tiara), Crown Prince Leopold and Crown Princess Astrid of Belgium (wearing her Emerald Necklace Tiara), Crown Prince Olav and Crown Princess Martha of Sweden (in the Vasa Tiara), Prince Gustaf Adolf and Princess Sibylla of Sweden (wearing the Cameo Tiara), Prince Carl and Princess Ingeborg of Sweden (in the Emerald Parure Tiara), Prince Axel and Princess Margretha of Denmark (in the Floral Tiara), the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (wearing her Aquamarine Tiara), Prince Hubertus of Prussia, and Prince and Princess René of Bourbon-Parma (in the Lobkowicz Tiara). The couple had three children, and became the Hereditary Prince and Hereditary Princess after King Christian’s death and the accession of King Frederik, until 1953, when the constitution was altered to allow women to succeed to the throne and appointed Princess (now Queen) Margrethe as Heiress Presumptive, after a referendum.
