Happy Birthday to Countess Marianne Bernadotte of Wisborg, Princess Bernadotte, who turns 95 today! The daughter of Helge Lindberg and Thyra Dahlman, she was born and grew up in Helsingborg, and became an actress at The Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm until her second marriage. In 1947, Marianne married Gabriel Tchang. the son of the Chinese Ambassador to Sweden. having three children before divorcing in 1957. In 1961, she married Count Sigvard Bernadotte of Wisborg, the second son of King Gustav VI Adolf of Sweden and Princess Margaret of Connaught, who lost his Royal Title after his first marriage and was made Count of Wisborg by the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, though he later also used the title of Prince Bernadotte. Countess Marianne is noted for her work supporting dyslexia, physical disabilities, children’s eye care and the arts, including the Marianne & Sigvard Bernadotte Arts Fund, which she has continued to support after Count Sigvard’s death in 2002. The last surviving aunt of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, Countess Marianne is a beloved member of the Swedish Royal Family, and continues to attend royal events.
