Gala Performance at the Florence Opera House, 1939

Prince Regent Paul and Princess Olga of Yugoslavia (wearing the Boucheron Diamond Tiara) are joined by Crown Princess Marie Jose of Italy (in Queen Margherita’s Musy Tiara), and Princess Paul’s cousins, Queen Mother Helen of Romania (wearing the Romanian Greek Key Tiara) and Princess Irene, Duchess of Aosta (in her Diamond Tiara) for a Gala Performance at the Teatro Comunale di Firenze in Florence on this day in 1939, on the last day of the Yugoslavian State Visit to Italy.

  1. Princess Olga’s Boucheron tiara has many elements that look like the Delhi Durbar tiara that was made for Queen Mary and that is now owned by the British royals. I don’t know if the Durbar tiara was also made by Boucheron, but they look very similar in design. This visit in 1939 was probably the last state visit any of those two royal families made before WWII or since.

    1. That State Visit was quite important on the eve of WWII, and in a couple of weeks I’ll be featuring their State Visit to Hitler as well, which was important in Yugoslavia’s role in WWII! And both Visits came months after their State Visit to the UK as well, for which I’ve never found many pictures!
