King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand is being crowned in a series of lavish ceremonies this week, and today we are taking a look at the last Thai Coronation, that of his father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej (wearing the Order of the Royal House of Chakri, Order of Chula Chom Klao, and Order of the Nine Gems), on this day in 1950. Ceremonies started with a Palanquin Procession to the Baisal Daksin Throne Hall in the Grand Palace in Bangkok, where King Bhumibol Adulyadej was crowned on the Bahadrabith Throne beneath the Great White Umbrella of State which was followed by Audiences and the crowning of Queen Sirikit (wearing her Coronation Tiara). Later, the newlywed King and Queen waved to crowds from a balcony.
