Coronation of King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand

King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun of Thailand (มหาวชิราลงกรณ บดินทรเทพยวรา), King Rama X, was formally crowned in a lavish Royal Coronation Ceremony in Bangkok from May 4th to May 6th. King Maha Vajiralongkorn succeeded to the Thai Throne after the 70-year reign of King Bhumibol Adulyadej in 2016.

After preparations stretching over two years, King Maha Vajiralongkorn (wearing the Order of the RajamitrabhornOrder of the Royal House of Chakri, Order of Chula Chom Klao, and Order of the Nine Gems) started his Coronation ceremonies on May 4th with the Royal Purification (Song Muratha Bhisek) Ceremony at the Chakrabat Biman Royal Residence at the Grand Palace in Bangkok, where the holy water was poured over the King (Muratha Bhisek).

Afterwards, King Maha Vajiralongkorn proceeded to the Bhadrapitha Throne under the Royal Nine-tiered Umbrella for the the Anointment Ceremony at the Baisal Daksin Throne Hall, where the Chief Brahmin presents the King with the Royal Golden Plaque of His Majesty’s official title, the Royal Regalia, the Ancient and Auspicious Orders, and the Weapons of Sovereignty. After the Crowning and Investiture Ceremony, the King presented the First Royal Command, and also presented Queen Suthida with the Order of the Nine Gems.

In the afternoon, members of the Royal Family attended the ceremony of assumption of the Royal Residence at the Chakrabat Biman Royal Residence, after which the King and Queen granted a grand audience to members of the Royal Family, the Privy Council, and the Cabinet at the Amarindra Vinicchaya Throne Hall. Later, King Maha Vajiralongkorn visited the Temple of the Emerald Buddha to proclaim himself the Royal Patron of Buddhism.

On May 5th, King Maha Vajiralongkorn presided over a ceremony at the Amarindra Vinicchaya Throne Hall to bestow His Majesty’s Royal Cypher and Royal Title and to grant the royal ranks to members of the Royal Family, which included new titles for almost everyone. Later, the King rode in the Royal Palanquin in the Royal Procession on Land to encircle the city of Bangkok, affording people the opportunity to attend and pay homage to their new King.

The last day began with King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida being joined by members of the Royal Family for a public audience on a balcony of Suddhaisavarya Prasad Hall in the Grand Palace to receive the good wishes of the people. Later, the King gave an audience to members of the international diplomatic corps at the Chakri Maha Prasad Throne Hall.

    But there are no foreign royals, i was hoping for a bunch of tiaras 🙁
