Italian State Visit to Britain, 1969

The Queen (wearing the Vladimir Tiara) and Duke of Edinburgh host a glittering State Banquet in honour of the State Visit of Italian President Giuseppe Saragat and his daughter, Ernestina Santacatterina, in the St George’s Hall of Windsor Castle on this day in 1969. The Queen Mother (wearing the Greville Tiara), Princess Royal (in the Princess Andrew’s Meander Tiara), and Duchess of Grafton (wearing the Grafton Tiara) were among the members of the Royal Family and Courtiers in attendance.

The following evening, President Giuseppe Saragat hosted a Return Banquet for members of the British Royal Family, including the Queen (wearing Queen Alexandra’s Kokoshnik Tiara), Queen Mother (in the Oriental Circlet Tiara), Princess Margaret (wearing the Lotus Flower Tiara), and the Duke and Duchess of Kent (in Queen Mary’s Crochet Tiara), at the Italian Embassy in London.

  1. I love the Oriental Circlet Tiara! I hope to see it in use again because I think either the Duchess of Cambridge of of Sussex would look smashing in it!
