Funeral of Crown Princess Märtha of Norway, 1954

The Funeral of Crown Princess Märtha of Norway at Oslo Cathedral on this day in 1954, which followed a Procession through Oslo and was followed by a burial in the Royal Mausoleum at Akershus Castle. Born a Swedish Princess, Crown Princess Märtha had become a hero of the Norwegian Resistance during the Second World War, and passed away from Cancer a few years before her husband succeeded to the Norwegian Throne.

The Royal Guests were received by King Haakon, Crown Prince Olav, Prince Harald, and Princess Astrid at the Railway Station and Airport.

  1. Double check the relation between Princess Märtha and King Gustav VI of Sweden. I think they were first cousins, being Gustaf V of Sweden and Prince Carl (the Princess’s father brothers

  2. Yes, King Gustaf VI was CP Martha’s first cousin … and Queen Ingrid of Denmark was his daughter so that made her CP Martha’s second cousin or first cousin once removed
