Afghanistan State Visit to Japan, 1969

The Japanese Imperial Family host King Mohammad Zahir Shah and Queen Humaira of Afghanistan on their State Visit to Japan on this day in 1969, 50 years ago. Highlights included an Official Welcome and audience with members of the Imperial Family (with the exception of Crown Princess Michiko, who gave birth to her youngest child, Princess Sayako, a few days later), and a glittering State Banquet hosted by Emperor Hirohito and Empress Nagako (wearing the Imperial Chrysanthemum Tiara and the Order of the Supreme Sun) in honour of King Mohammad Zahir Shah (wearing the Order of the Chrysanthemum) and Queen Humaira (in the Order of the Precious Crown) at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.
