King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium are on a 3-Day State Visit to South Korea at the request of the Belgian Government to celebrate and build diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties from March 25th to the 28th.

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde arrived in Seoul on March 25th, and stayed at the Grand Hyatt in Seoul. After resting for most of their first day, the visited the Furniture Museum and took part in a South Korean Tea Ceremony.

The following day started with a wreath laying ceremony at the National Cemetery  followed by a ceremony at the War Memorial of Korea and visit to the Belgian Monument. Afterwards, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde were officially welcomed by President Moon Jae-In and First Lady Kim Jung-sook, after which the King and President had a meeting, visited the National Assembly and the exhibition “Belgium-Korea Relations in 10 archives”. Meanwhile, the Queen and First Lady visited the Korea National University of Arts – School of Music. In the evening, the President and First Lady hosted a State Banquet and Cultural Performance.

On the 27th, Queen Mathilde attended the opening of the Academic seminar for heads of Koreans and Belgian HEIs, visited Songdo, attended a lunch on SDGs, and a seminar on the Impact of Climate change on Children. Meanwhile the King attended the Korea-Belgium Business Forum, Life Science and Healthcare Symposium, aPower lunch, and a visit to Kukkiwon with a Taekwondo Demonstration. In the evening, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde hosted a Return Concert and Reception at The Raum.
