Infanta Margarita’s Diamond Brooch Tiara

Happy Birthday to Infanta Margarita, Duchess of Soria and Hernani, who turns 80 today! The younger sister of King Juan Carlos and the aunt of King Felipe, who was born blind, she has attended a plethora of glittering events over the decades, and to mark her birthday, we are taking a look at her Diamond Brooch Tiara!

The twin Diamond Scroll Brooches were part of the Wedding Gifts given to Princess María de las Mercedes of Bourbon-Two-Sicilies when she married Infante Juan of Spain, the fourth son and heir of the exiled King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenie of Spain, in 1935, and displayed with her corbeille de mariage, alongside her Ruby Clip Brooch and Cartier Loop Tiara.

The Countess was not pictured wearing these brooches, and in 1967, one of them was worn by Infanta Margarita in her hair at the Wedding Ball of her sister, Infanta Pilar. A couple of years later, the Infanta started to wear both Diamond Scroll Brooches on a Tiara frame, and they were worn quite often at glittering events in the 1970s and 1980s.

At some point in the late 1980s, Infanta Margarita topped her Diamond Scroll Brooch Tiara with small pearl-shaped pearls, the version that she wore for most of her Tiara events, until 1996, when the Tiara was last seen. While she has worn others, this appears to be only Tiara personally owned by the Infanta, and we have yet to see it worn by her daughter.
