King Abdullah II is Sworn In as the 4th King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in front of an Emergency Session of the Jordanian Parliament on this day in 1999, just hours after the death of King Hussein. The new King declared “I swear by Almighty Allah to uphold the constitution and to be faithful to the nation!” While he was the Heir to the Throne for the first three years of his life, until instability led King Hussein to appoint his brother, Prince Hassan as the Crown Prince until just two weeks before his death, when he suddenly reappointed Abdullah as his Heir.
