Countess of Lichfield’s Tiaras

Happy Birthday to Leonora, Countess of Lichfield, who turns 70 today! Born Lady Leonora Grosvenor, the elder daughter of the 5th Duke of Westminster and Hon Viola Maud Lyttelton, she was the sister of the late 6th Duke of Westminster and the former Duchess of Roxburghe. In 1975, she married society photographer Patrick Anson, the 5th Earl of Lichfield, son of Princess Anne of Denmark, née Bowes-Lyon, and became the Countess of Lichfield, and the sister-in-law of society party planner, Lady Elizabeth Shakerley. The couple had three children but divorced in 1986, and since she has not remarried she still retains the title. The Countess has also been an extra lady-in-waiting to the Princess Royal since 1979. To mark her special birthday, we are taking a look at the Countess of Lichfield’s Tiaras-

At her Wedding to the Earl of Lichfield in 1975, Lady Leonora wore this Diamond Tiara featuring foliate clusters for the ceremony at Chester Cathedral, near the Westminster Family Seat of Eaton Hall. The Countess has retained the piece since her divorce, and wore the tiara as a necklace at the Queen’s 80th Birthday Party at the Ritz in London in 2006.

The Countess has also worn this Tiara featuring seven diamond and sapphire stars, also worn by her mother-in-law, most notably at a Reception in 1982, and a State Banquet for the President of Malawi at Windsor Castle in 1986, which she attended in her role as a lady-in-waiting to the Princess Royal. The current Countess hasn’t been photographed wearing a Tiara yet, but we hope that Leonora, Countess of Lichfield wears these jewels for years to come.
