Wedding of Kunwar Digraj Singh of Shahpura and Kumari Vijayashree Shaktawat of Jagat

Happy Anniversary to Kunwar Digraj Singh of Shahpura and Kumari Vijayashree Shaktawat of Jagat, who got married on this day in 2016! It is very rare to get a glimpse into the complex and ancient rituals of an Indian Royal Wedding, and when I discovered a video recently, I knew I had to share the wedding of two members of minor Indian Princely Houses from Rajasthan, Jaipur and Udaipur respectively.

Day 1 of the festivities started with the Ganpati Sthapna and other ceremonies, followed by traditional Rajasthani Dances for Kumari Vijayashree Shaktawat of Jagat and the Jagat Royal Family, in Udaipur.

On the evening of Day 2, the Jagat Royal Family and their guests had drinks and snacks on the Jagat Sagar, in front of the Jagat Niwas Palace Hotel, followed by more Traditional Dances, including Nichrawal, the act of taking money and whirling it in a circle over the head of the person/s dancing and thereafter handing it over to the folk singers is a traditional way of expressing your appreciation to both the parties.

On Day 3, the Jagat Royal Family and their guests moved to the Fateh Niwas Palace Hotel in Udaipur, where they had a Cocktail/Glam Night.

The 4th Day was full of festivities for Kumari Vijayashree Shaktawat and the Jagat Royal Family at the Fateh Niwas Palace Hotel, with the Grah Shanti & Myra, Peethi, Mehendi, and Traditional Dances in the evening.

Also on Day 4, Kunwar Digraj Singh and the Shahpura Royal Family arrived at the Fateh Niwas Palace Hotel, and they presented their lavish wedding gifts for Kumari Vijayashree Shaktawat of Jagat.

Day 5 finally brought the day of the wedding, starting with Kunwar Digraj Singh arriving on an elephant and being welcomed in the Saasu Aarti, when the Groom is welcomed by the mother of the bride while the relatives and the bride herself try to play pranks on him, followed by the Pheras, and night-long wedding ceremonies, which ended in the morning, when the bride and groom set off from the Fateh Niwas Palace.
