  1. I don’t know how, but for once I think Princess Laurentien was better dressed that Queen Maxima. The Queen’s dress was too involved with the long sleeves, high gathered neckline, and multiple layers of different colors of fabric. It just had too many things going on, including the gloves. Princess Laurentien’s dress on the other hand was elegant and classic and in a very flattering color. Even her hat was better! Maybe some other occasion where there are no hats or gloves involved Queen Maxima’s dress will have a chance to shine.

    1. I thought the exact same thing! Queen Maxima also looked quite down, so her look was probably not the only issue thing today! The look was underwhelming, and she had none of the statement jewels we have come to expect from Prinsjesdag!

      1. You’re right. She did look quite downcast, even if she smiled when she was at the balcony. You said in the article that her mother and brother were there. I’ve no doubt that in spite of the appearance of “business as usual”, she was very much affected by her little sister’s death. Her family is there to lend support as well as to give it. Family is so important at a time like this. It’s true that she also lost her father not long ago, but he had been ill for some time and he was an older gentleman. Her young sister’s death by her own hand no doubt has her questioning herself- could I have done more? It’s always sad to hear about someone’s suicide, but I think it’s a whole other matter when it’s someone as close to you as you little sister. I feel sorry that Queen Maxima’s multiple obligations don’t allow her the proper time for her to mourn.
