Abdication of Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands, 1948

Abdication of Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands, after a Reign of 50 years, in favour of her only daughter, Queen Juliana, at the Royal Palace of Amsterdam on this day in 1948. After the abdication, the former Queen was known as Princess Wilhelmina. Queen Juliana reigned until 1980, when she abdicated in favour of her daughter, Queen Beatrix, who in turn abdicated in 2013, for her son, the current King Willem-Alexander.
