The second daughter and fifth child of Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark and Princess Louise of Sweden, she was the nice of Empress Maria Feodorovna of Russia, Queen-Empress Alexandra of the United Kingdom, and King George I of Greece. In 1897, Princess Ingeborg married Prince Carl, Duke of Västergötland, a cousin. Princess Ingeborg was one of three people (her mother and eldest daughter being the other two) who were Princess of all three Scandinavian Kingdoms; Sweden, Denmark, and Norway, through birth or marriage. She served as one of the leading ladies of the Court after her marriage, due to Queen Sophia and Crown Princess Victoria preferring a private life. 1. Princess Ingeborg, for all her royal pedigree, seems to have been a lovely, generous, and level-headed woman. She gave her daughter CP Martha her most valuable possession, the emerald tiara, so that she would have something of value to sell as she went to exile during WWII. As it happened, CP Martha didn’t have to sell the piece, but parting with it in that way demonstrates to me that Princess Ingeborg had her priorities straight. Furthermore, she apparently didn’t ask for the tiara to be returned to her and as a result that tiara is now the pride and joy of the current Norwegian royal family.
