Australian State Visit to Belgium

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium are hosting Governor General Sir Peter and Lady Cosgrove of Australia on a State Visit to Belgium from June 27th to 30th, at the invitation of the Belgian Government to celebrate and build diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties. The Governor General is the acting Australian Head of State and serves as the Federal Viceregal representative of the Queen of Australia, Queen Elizabeth II.

In the morning, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde welcomed Sir Peter and Lady Cosgrove at an Official Welcome Ceremony at the Place des Palais (Paleizenplein) in Brussels. Afterwards, the King and Queen met the Australian Delegation, and hosted a Lunch for the Governor General and Vice Regal Consort.

In the evening, King Philippe (wearing Uniform with the Sash and Star of the Order of Leopold) and Queen Mathilde (in a repeated Armani gown with the Wolfers Necklace Tiara, Queen Fabiola’s Pearl Earrings, Butterfly Brooch, and the Sash and Star of the Order of Leopold) hosted a State Banquet in honour of Sir Peter and Lady Cosgrove at the Royal Castle of Laeken. Both the King and Governor General gave speeches.

  1. Hmmm……I wonder why didn’t Lady Cosgrove wear a tiara to the state banquet? I can’t tell from the picture if she even wore an evening gown!

    1. I doubt Lady Cosgrove has a Tiara to wear in the first place, and even then I do not think she would wear it since the GG is quite criticized for being elitist. As for the gown, I have updated the pictures so you can see correctly!
