Happy Birthday to Princess Laurentien of The Netherlands, who turns 52 today! The daughter of the former Dutch minister of Economic Affairs, Laurens Jan Brinkhorst and Jantien Brinkhorst-Heringa, she grew up in the Netherlands and was educated in the UK and the US. In 2001, she married Prince Constantijn of The Netherlands, youngest son of Queen Beatrix, and the couple have three children, Countess Eloise, Count Claus-Casimir, and Countess Leonore of Orange-Nassau. Princess Laurentien has led the fight against illiteracy in the Netherlands, and was designated the UNESCO Special Envoy on ‘Literacy for Development.’ As the only two full-time working members of the Royal Family after King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien attend a variety of formal events including Prinsjesdag and State Banquets, where she is known for her often eccentric sartorial choices. I wish HRH a very Happy Birthday and Many Happy Returns!

  1. Thank goodness for people like Princess Laurentien! She’s an original! He sartorial choices might not be the most attractive or popular, but she likes them and always looks happy and delighted to be wherever she is. She and Prince Constantijn have a lovely family. I wish her joy on her birthday! 🙂
