When Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon married the Duke of York in 1923, the Earl of Strathmore gifted his youngest daughter the spectacular Strathmore Rose Tiara, which could also be worn with five sapphires in place of the diamonds in the centre of each of the wild roses. Like many of the other wedding gifts, the Tiara went on display at St James’ Palace, open to the public.

The new Duchess of York notably wore the Strathmore Rose Tiara for a series of portraits in the early to mid 1920s, paired with the Teck Flower Brooch and her Cartier Bracelets, which were widely reproduced around the time of her husband’s accession in 1936.

  1. It would be great if this beautiful little tiara is still around and wearable. It hasn’t been worn in so long it’s doubtful. Still, I’m sure if it isn’t it can be fixed! I agree this would be a lovely choice as a wedding tiara and one that is associated with the loving relationship of the groom’s great grandparents.
