Moroccan Royal Tiaras

Happy Birthday to Princess Lalla Salma of Morocco, who turns 40 today! The first wife of a Moroccan ruler to have been publicly acknowledged and given a royal title and role, she has represented the King at a variety of royal events, though she has rarely worn Tiaras. In honour of her birthday, we are taking a look at the Moroccan Royal Tiaras.

A wedding gift from King Mohammed VI, this glittering modern parure, set with white and pink diamonds, was specially commissioned for Princess Lalla Salma. In addition to the Tiara, it consists of a large Necklace, Earrings, Bracelet, Belt, and Fibulae in a hexagonal, chain design. Princess Lalla Salma wore the tiara only once publicly, at Queen Beatrix’s Abdication Dinner, though she wore parts of the Parure on her Wedding Day.

This diamond Meander Tiara is another wedding gift from the King to Princess Lalla Salma, who wore the piece on their wedding day in 2002. The piece is thought to be an antique Chaumet Tiara made in 1910, which was bought by the King at auction.

Pearl and Diamond Scroll Tiara

This modern Pearl and Diamond Scroll Tiara was worn by Princess Lalla Salma at the wedding festivities of her brother-in-law, Prince Moulay Rachid, in 2014. It is of unknown provenance, and was probably a purchase.

  1. I really like Princess Lalla Salma’s tiaras. One is very classical, with the Greek key motif, and the other two are pretty whimsical, especially the twirly pearl one. She wears them like bandeaux, perfect to show off her beautiful long auburn hair. She looks stunning!
