Royal Maundy Service 2018

The Queen attended the Royal Maundy Service at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle on March 29th. Maundy Thursday is the Christian holy day falling on the Thursday before Easter. It commemorates the Maundy and Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles. The Queen commemorates Maundy by offering ‘alms’ to senior citizens in recognition of service to the church and to the local community. The Duke of Edinburgh pulled out due to a hip problem.

The Queen was met by officials as she arrived at the Royal Maundy Service at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. During the service, she distributed ceremonial Maundy money to 92 men and 92 women from the local community of senior citizens, in recognition of the service they have given to the church and to the local community. Later, an official photograph was taken of the Queen with those who had taken part in the service.
