Happy Birthday to Grand Duchess Maria Theresa of Luxembourg, who turns 62 today! The daughter of Cuban aristocrats, she was born in Cuba, and was educated in New York City and Geneva before she met and married then Hereditary Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg on Valentine’s Day in 1981. The couple have five children, four sons and a daughter, and four grandchildren. Grand Duke Henri succeeded to the Throne after his father, Grand Duke Jean, abdicated in 2000. An top of her official duties, Grand Duchess Maria Theresa is a Special Ambassador for UNESCO, an Eminent Advocate for Children with UNICEF, and the President of the Luxembourg Red Cross. We wish HRH a very Happy Birthday and many Happy Returns!
