Wedding of Prince Nikolaus of Liechtenstein and Princess Margaretha of Luxembourg

The Wedding of Prince Nikolaus of Liechtenstein, son of Prince Franz Joseph and Princess Gina of Liechtenstein, and Princess Margaretha of Luxembourg, (wearing the Congo Diamond Necklace Tiara) the daughter of Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg and Princess Joséphine Charlotte of Belgium, at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg on this day in 1982, following their Wedding Ball at the Grand Ducal Palace. It was the last match between members of two reigning royal families, and came just weeks after the Wedding of her sister, Princess Marie-Astrid, and Archduke Carl-Christian of Austria. The couple have three children: Princess Maria-Anunciata of Liechtenstein, Princess Marie-Astrid of Liechtenstein, and Prince Josef-Emanuel of Liechtenstein.

Royal Guests and Relatives in attendance included King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola of Belgium, Queen Sofia of Spain, King Constantine II and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, King Michael and Queen Anne of Romania, the Count and Countess of Paris, Archduchess Regina von Habsburg, Princess Margriet of the Netherlands and Pieter van Vollenhoven, Prince Albert, Princess Paola, and Prince Philippe of Belgium, and Infanta Elena of Spain among a host of Royal and Noble Attendees.

  1. I am surprised that they were allowed to marry in Lent. Does anyone know why? The wedding dress and headpiece, while very suitable for this Bride, are very much indicative of the 1980’s. Ruffles galore!
