Wedding Gala of Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia and Princess Maria Pia of Savoy, 1955

Royalty from around Europe gathered in Portugal for the magnificent Wedding celebrations of  Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia, son of Prince Paul of Yugoslavia and Princess Olga of Greece, and Princess Maria Pia of Savoy, daughter of King Umberto II of Italy and Princess Marie Jose of Belgium, in 1955.

Celebrations began with a magnificent Gala Reception at the Palace Hotel of Estoril on this day in 1955, two days before the Wedding. Prince Alexander and Princess Maria Pia (wearing her Pearl and Diamond Tiara) were joined by their parents, King Umberto and Queen Marie Jose of Italy (in her Musy Tiara) and Prince Paul and Princess Olga of Yugoslavia (wearing the Greek Ruby Parure).

Tsar Simeon, Queen Giovanna (aunt of the bride, wearing her Köchert Tiara), and Princess Marie Louise of Bulgaria (in Queen Giovanna’s Pearl Tiara), Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent (aunt of the groom, wearing the Kent City of London Fringe Tiara), the Duke of Kent, and Princess Alexandra (wearing Queen Mary’s Diamond Bandeau), Countess Helene zu Törring-Jettenbach, Princess Anne, Duchess of Aosta (cousin, in the Savoy-Aosta Tiara), Princess Irene, Duchess of Aosta (cousin, in her Diamond Tiara), the Count and Countess of Barcelona (wearing Queen Maria Christina’s Cartier Loop Tiara), the Duke and Duchess of Braganza (wearing her Diamond Bandeau Tiara), the Count and Countess of Paris (in the Pearl and Sapphire Parure), the Prince and Princess of Hanover (wearing her Diamond Necklace Tiara), and Infanta Maria Cristina of Spain (wearing Infanta Isabel’s Emerald Parure) among a host of Royal and Noble Guests from around Europe.

The following evening, there was another glittering Gala Reception at the Castro Guimarães Museum in Cascais at which Prince Alexander and Princess Maria Pia (wearing her Pearl and Diamond Tiara) were pictured with Queen Marie Jose (in her Musy Tiara), Princess Olga (wearing her Diamond Kokoshnik Tiara), Queen Giovanna (wearing her Köchert Tiara), Princess Anne, Duchess of Aosta (in the Savoy-Aosta Tiara) and Princess Irene, Duchess of Aosta (wearing her Diamond Tiara) among a host of Royal and Noble Guests from around Europe.
