Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace 2017

Queen Elizabeth II hosted the annual Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace on December 5th. The glittering white tie affair is the the main ambassadorial social event of the year in London.In addition to ambassadors, high commissioners and their partners, around 600 foreign diplomats based in London were among the guests together with around 300 British diplomats and senior figures from commerce, education, broadcasting and the arts. As usual, there were no pictures released from inside the event, even after last year’s surprise portrait

The Queen wore a white and gold gown with the Girls of Great Britain & Ireland Tiara and the Sash and Star of the Order of the Garter with her Royal Family Orders. The Prince of Wales wore White Tie with knee-britches, the Garter, Sash and Star of the Order of the Garter, the Star of the Order of the Thistle, his medals, and other Insignia. The Duchess of Cornwall wore a black and white lace gown with the Greville TiaraPear Drop Diamond earrings, her pearl choker with the large diamond clasp, Queen Elizabeth II’s Royal Family Order, and the Sash and Star of the Royal Victorian Order.

The Duke of Cambridge wore White Tie with knee-britches, the Garter, Sash and Star of the Order of the Garter, the Star of the Order of the Thistle, his medals, and other Insignia. The Duchess of Cambridge wore a white gown with Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot TiaraPrincess Diana’s Collingwood Pearl Earrings, and a Diamond Collet Necklace.

  1. The Duchess of Cornwall was looking very excellent that evening! Even if I’m not a fan of her chokers, nobody can manage that huge Greville tiara like her. It almost looks like part of her hairdo! Her beautiful beaded black and white gown is very becoming as well. The Duchess of Cambridge was not to be undone, wearing one of the Queen’s diamond collet necklaces for the first time. I love it when she busts out some new jewel loan! I would have liked for her to wear the Lotus Flower tiara, but I guess given the formality of the occasion the Lover’s Knot is more substantial and perhaps considered more appropriate. In any case, she looked stunning!
