Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in Birmingham

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Birmingham for a day of engagements on November 22nd.

On arrival at Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull Manufacturing Plant, the Duke and Duchess were given an overview of JLR and the Solihull site before heading to the Vehicle Assembly area, to view the assembly line and hear about the manufacturing process, meeting staff and apprentices. Then, they visited the Jaguar Land Rover Experience Centre, where they met Mountain Rescue volunteers participating in a vehicle familiarisation exercise, before haveing the opportunity to drive a vehicle in the off-road driving area. Afterwards, the Duke and Duchess meet some of JLR’s volunteers, who support projects focusing on regeneration, education, young people, charity work and the environment, and met schoolchildren from Topcliffe Primary School, Castle Vale – winners of the Jaguar Primary School Challenge and saw their wining model car race on a track.

Afterwards, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge traveled to the Aston Villa Football Club to see the work of the Coach Core programme in Birmingham. They met with a group of employers to discuss the positive impact of Coach Core and heard about the progression of the apprentices, before joining a training session with Coach Core apprentices and tutors working with local schoolchildren.

Finally, the Duke and Duchess visited Acme Whistles, creators of the first police whistle and the original Acme Thunderer, where they heard about the history of the company and saw past and present products before touring the workshop and seeing the production process. Afterwards, the Duke and Duchess joined members of staff and apprentices at a short reception before unveiling a plaque to mark their visit.

The Duke wore dark jumper with a blue suit, adding on a navy bubble jacket for the Coach Core event. The Duchess wore the Goat Fashion Washington coat with her Kiki McDonough Lauren earrings, changing into a jacket for the Coach Core event, and back into the earlier ensemble for the final event.
