Queen in Kingston upon Hull

Queen Elizabeth II visited Kingston upon Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire, on November 16th, to mark its year as the United Kingdom’s City of Culture.

The Queen arrived by train at Hull Railway Station where she was greeted by the Lord-Lieutenant of East Riding and met City of Culture Volunteers, before unveiling a plaque to commemorate her visit during the City’s ‘Year of Culture’ and doing a short walkabout.
Afterwards, the Queen visited the Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy wind turbine blade factory, where she viewed a blade production line, met operatives and watched a demonstration. Later, she met students involved in the ‘Green Power’ project, which aims to inspire young people into a career in engineering by building and racing electric powered cars, and was introduced to factory apprentices and representatives from the ‘Pathway Plus’ scheme for employees with special educational needs, before unveiling a plaque to mark her visit.
Subsequently, the Queen visited the University of Hull where she formally opened the Allam Medical Building. Upon arrival, she was greeted by the University Vice-Chancellor and toured the building before meeting nursing care students and tutors, observing a training session on robotic mannequin patients, and visiting an operating theatre. The Queen met representatives of perinatal and mental health care before unveiling a plaque to mark the formal opening of the building. 1. Wow! The Queen looks wonderful! That shade of blue suits her powerfully and I love that hat! Most of all I love her smile, though. After 65 years on the job, she’s still interested and friendly and gracious. May she continue to grace us with her presence for many more years!
