Autumn Garden Party at Akasaka Imperial Gardens

Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko were joined by members of the Japanese Imperial Family as they hosted the annual Autumn Garden Party at the Akasaka Imperial Gardens in Tokyo on November 9th.

Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko were accompanied by Crown Prince Naruhito, Crown Princess Masako, Prince Akishino, Princess Mako, Princess Kiko of Akishino, Princess Tsuguko, Princess Akiko, Princess Yoko and Princess Ayako of Takamado for the annual Autumn Garden Party at the Akasaka Imperial Gardens.

  1. Princesses Nobuko and Hisako did not attend this garden party. Princess Nobuko is in the Netherlands November 5-10; Princess Hisako is visiting Nara and Kyoto November 9-11. Nobuko’s daughters Princesses Akiko and Yoko attended.

  2. All the ladies look so beautiful in their kimonos! I actually enjoy seeing them more in their traditional dress than in “western wear”. They tend to be a bit too monochromatic in western wear, almost like they’re wearing a uniform. They are more colorful and individualistic when wearing their national dress IMHO. The Imperial couple look wonderful!
