Belgian State Visit to India, 1970

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium are starting their 7-day State Visit to India today, to cement economic and diplomatic ties. In honour of the State Visit, we are taking a look back at previous visits made by Belgian Monarchs to India-

In 1970, King Baudoin and Queen Fabiola made a State Visit to India, where they were welcomed by President Giri and Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The couple traveled around Northern India, visiting the Taj Mahal, the Qutb Minar in Delhi, Palaces in Rajasthan, and attending a State Banquet at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, where Queen Fabiola wore her Spanish Wedding Gift Tiara.
