Queen Máxima of the Netherlands has been on a 4-day visit to Nigeria, from October 30th to November 2nd, in her role as the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA)

On October 30th, Queen Máxima arrived in the city of Lagos, where she was welcomed by officials upon her arrival at her hotel.

On the 31st, Queen Máxima paid field visit in Lagos, where she learned about how people in poverty situations can terminate health insurance through their mobile phone. She also visited a project where companies can digitally request a loan.
Afterwards, Queen Máxima met with Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of the state of Lagos, and then participated in a round table discussion with representatives from the private sector about the importance of good access to financial services. Later, she traveled to the capital city of Abuja.

On November 1st, Queen Máxima met with representatives of development partners such as the World Bank Group and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. She also had talks with representatives of the Nigerian Development Bank (DBN) and the Nigerian Commission for Communications (NCC). Later, Queen Máxima visited a driving school with a bank agency, and in the afternoon, she met Governor Godwin Emefiele, from the Central Bank of Nigeria, and Deputy Prime Minister Yemi Osinbajo as well as Financial Minister Kemi Adeosun.

On November 2nd, Queen Máxima gave a speech at EFINA’s “The Role of Government in Driving Financial Inclusion in Nigeria” meeting and met with Governor Ibrahim Shettima in his capacity as Chairman of the Northern Länder Governors’ Forum and Governor of Borno.
