Happy Birthday to the Princess of Asturias! The eldest child of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain, she was born Infanta Leonor de Todos los Santos de Borbón y Ortiz of Spain, and has a younger sister, Infanta Sofia. She has been attending the Santa María de los Rosales School in Madrid since 2008. In 2014, after the abdication of her grandfather and the accession of her father, she became the Princess of Asturias, as Heiress Presumptive to the Throne, but not Heiress Apparent, since Spain still follows  male-preference cognatic primogeniture. The Princess also holds the additional titles of Princess of Girona, Princess of Viana, Duchess of Montblanc, Countess of Cervera and Lady of Balaguer. While the Princess does not have full-time official duties, she has been increasingly more prominent in recent years, which has included presiding of the annual . We wish HRH a very Happy Birthday and Many Happy Returns!

  1. interesting historical note … Leonor was born on the two hundredth anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar!

  2. Actually I was wrong – the Battle was on the 21st – I thought that was her birthday but apparently not – her birthday was the 31st – ten days too late!
