Dutch State Visit to Portugal- Day 2

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of The Netherlands are on a 3-day State Visit to Portugal from October 10-12 to strengthen political, economic and cultural ties between the two countries.

On Day 2, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima visited the Champalimaud Center for the Unknown in Lisbon, where they learned about treatment methods and partnerships with the Netherlands. Afterwards, the King and Queen attended a a presentation on European cooperation at the Universidad de Lisboa, given by the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Portuguese Minister Augusto Santos Silva, after which the royal couple talked to students about the challenges of the European Union.

Later, at a Trade Lunch, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima met the participants of the parallel economic mission and their Portuguese network and witnessed the signing of some cooperation agreements.  In the afternoon, the couple opened a temporary exhibition at the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, for which, the Rijksmuseum has loaned Landscape with Rembrandt’s stone bridge as well pieces on loan from the royal collections. Afterwards, the King and Queen were received by Prime Minister António Costa.

In the evening, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima hosted a return concert and reception, featuring Dutch-Friesian singer Nynke Laverman and fado singer Cristina Branco, for the President and Portuguese guests at the Teatro Nacional Dona Maria II, as gratitude for the hospitality offered during the state visit. After the concert, the Royal Couple bid farewell to the President.

For the day events, King Willem-Alexander wore a navy suit with an orange tie. Queen Máxima repeated a coral Elie Saab lace dress with a floral fascinator, pearl necklace with coral flower, and coral earrings. For the Banquet, King Willem-Alexander wore Black Tie. Queen Máxima wore a Jan Tazminiau gown with a diamond riviere, stomacher pendent, ruby and diamond earrings, bracelets from the Mellerio Ruby Parure, and her diamond bow brooches in hair.
