The state visit started when President Rebelo de Sousa received King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima with a welcome ceremony at the Jerónimos Monastery. Queen Máxima wore a beige Natan dress with a Fabienne Delvigne hat, large diamond stud earrings, and a diamond bow brooch (worn twice before) with pendants from Queen Emma’s diamond stomacher. For the Banquet, King Willem-Alexander wore White Tie with the sash, star, and collar of the Order of Infante D. Henrique. Queen Máxima repeated a green Jan Taminiau gown with the Emerald Tiara, earrings, necklace with large pendant, brooch, and the sash, star, and collar of the Order of Infante D. Henrique.

  1. The King and Queen of the Netherlands looked great in their appearances in Portugal. I especially liked Queen Maxima’s choice of jewelry. That brooch she wore during the day was truly special and the emerald tiara is one of my favorites. Her dress she wore at the banquet was beautiful! Even the Duchess of Braganza brought out a very special tiara for the occasion. I think she usually wears a much smaller diadem when she’s out and about in royal events. Maybe she wanted to signify how special the visit from the Dutch Monarchs was? Whatever the case, it was all very wonderful! BTW, I think President de Sousa is charming! He always appears to be so down to earth and approachable.

    1. Absolutely agree! I think it was the first time the Duchess wore the Tiara, apart from portraits, since her wedding in the 90s! It is truly special! Stay tuned for a ‘Portuguese Royal Tiaras’ post in honour of her birthday next month!
