Brunei Royal Tiaras

The Sultan of Brunei will celebrating his Golden (50th) Jubilee in a series of lavish events this week. As one of the richest royal families of the world, though from a culture where tiaras aren’t the norm, the jewels belonging to the family feature extraordinary large stones in modern settings. In honour of the Jubilee, we are taking a look at the Tiaras of the Brunei Royal Ladies- 

Queen Saleha’s Coloured Diamond Tiara

Queen Saleha has been wearing this grand tiara, which features large coloured diamonds, since the 1980s. Notable occasions include the Sultan’s 25th Jubilee and the British State Visit to Brunei.

Queen Saleha’s Diamond Upright Tiara

This tiara, featuring large pear-shaped diamonds, has been worn by Queen Saleha since the 1980s. It was also worn by her daughter, Princess Majeedah, at her 2007 wedding.

Queen Saleha’s Emerald Tiara

Queen Saleha also owns an emerald and diamond tiara, featuring six large emeralds, which has been worn by her daughters; Princess Rashidah Sa’adatul, Princess Majeedah Nuurul, Princess Hafizah Sururul, and her daughter-in-law, Princess Raabi’atul ‘Adawiyyah.

Crown Princess Sarah Wedding Tiara

Crown Princess Sarah received this diamond tiara was a wedding gift from the Sultan ahead of her 2004 wedding. It was worn to the wedding celebrations and the abdication dinner of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. The tiara has also been worn by Princess Majeedah Nuurul, Princess Hafizah Sururul, and Princess Halmatussa’sadah.

Queen Saleha’s Diamond Flame Tiara

One of the oldest tiaras in the collection, this tiara has been worn by Queen Saleha since the 1970s. It was loaned to Crown Princess Sarah for a pre-wedding event, and has also been worn by Princess Huda Bahaaul, Princess Norashikin, and Mas’udah Abdullah.

Queen Saleha’s Diamond Heart Tiara

Featuring a large heart-shaped diamond, this tiara was worn by Queen Saleha at the Dutch State Banquet in Brunei and later worn by her daughter, Princess Hafizah Sururul.

Queen Azrinaz’s Tiara

This diamond tiara, featuring hanging pear-shaped diamonds, was worn by the now ex-Queen Azrinaz, the tv presenter third wife, who was 33 years younger than the Sultan. After her divorce in 2010, she was stripped of her titles and honours, and presumably this tiara is back with the Sultan.
