Prince Gabriel of Sweden

Princess Sofia of Sweden gave birth to a healthy baby boy at 11:24 am on August 31st at Danderyd Hospital in Stockholm. The gender of the baby was announced by Prince Carl Phillip in a press conference at 3:00 pm, while the Swedish Court said “Both mother and child are doing well.” The full name and dukedom of the new Prince will be announced by the baby’s grandfather in a cabinet meeting in a few days, while a Te Deum will be held tomorrow. The baby is 6th-in-line to the Swedish Throne.

Prince Carl Phillip and Princess Sofia, who got married in 2015, announced the pregnancy in March and have one older son, Prince Alexander, born last year.

UPDATE– Prince Carl Phillip, Princess Sofia, and their new son have been discharged from the hospital and are now home at Villa Solbacken.

UPDATE #2– The name and titles of the new Prince were announced on September 4th by King Carl XVI Gustaf in a Cabinet meeting as: HRH Prince Gabriel Carl Walther, Duke of Dalarna.

A Te Deum was also held on September 4th, attended by members of the paternal and maternal families.

UPDATE #4– On October 9th, the Swedish Royal Court released two photographs of Prince Gabriel and his family, along with the message:

A big and warm thanks for all the kind congratulations that have been received in connection with the birth of our son, Prince Gabriel.

We appreciate your caring a lot. “
