Happy Birthday to the Princess Royal! The only daughter and second child of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, she was born 3rd-in-line to the throne, and is now 14th. Educated at Buckingham Palace and the Benenden School, Princess Anne is a professional equestrian, winning gold at the European Eventing Championships in 1971 and representing Britain 1976 Montreal Olympics. In 1973, she married fellow equestrian Captain Mark Phillips. The couple had two children, Peter and Zara, before divorcing 1992, when the Princess married Timothy Laurence. Princess Anne is one of the most hardworking members of the royal family, undertaking over 500 official engagements every year, and is regularly on top of the ‘numbers of engagements’ list. In 1987, she was given the title ‘Princess Royal’ customarily (but not automatically) awarded to the Monarch’s eldest daughter. We wish HRH a very Happy Birthday and Many Happy Returns!
