Collection of Raine, Countess Spencer

The Collection of Raine, Countess Spencer will be auctioned at Christie’s in London today. Raine was the daughter of novelist Dame Barbra Cartland, and at various times was the Countess of Dartmouth, Countess Spencer, and the Comtesse de Chambrun. She was also the stepmother of Diana, Princess of Wales. Raine, Countess Spencer died in London last October aged 87. A collector of fine art, furnishings, and couture, the late Countess’ collection is being sold at Christie’s. Click HERE to learn more about the Sale. Gold, Ruby, and Diamond Parure

An 18 carat Gold, Ruby, and Diamond Parure by Van Cleef & Arpels. Comprising a necklace, suspending a brooch pendant, a pair of ear pendants, and a ring en suite. The necklace dismounts to form a pair of bracelets. Given to Lady Spencer by Lord Spencer as a token of his love and gratitude in 1980. Lady Spencer was photographed wearing part of this suite with Dame Shirley Bassey, when attending a function at Covent Garden, London, in 2004.

Diamond Brooch

A diamond brooch of pierced fan-shaped design, set with six graduated old-cut diamond-set flowerheads, each with a diamond collet centre, with further pavé-set diamond foliate detail and various-cut diamond accents which comes from Roma, Countess of Dartmouth, the first mother-in-law of Raine, Countess Spencer.

Blister Pearl and Gemstone Demi Parure

A Blister Pearl and Gemstone Demi Parure, circa 1900, Designed as a series of cluster panels, set with a blister pearl within a border of oval rubies or pink sapphires interspersed with rose-cut diamonds to the smaller connecting links of similar design, the front suspending a blister pearl pendent drop within a rose-cut diamond-set border with circular-cut ruby accents and diamond-set foliate detail, with earrings and ring en suite. Raine, Countess Spencer, then The Hon. Mrs Gerald Legge, was photographed wearing this suite with her mother, Dame Barbara Cartland in 1957.
