Engagement of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip of Greece

On this day in 1947, 70 years ago, Buckingham Palace announced the engagement of Princess (now Queen) Elizabeth and Lt. Philip Mountbatten (former Prince Philip of Greece and now the Duke of Edinburgh). The couple got engaged in 1946, but weren’t given permission by her father until April 1947. They got married in November that year, and will celebrate their 70th Anniversary this year. Take a look at photos from the announcement of their engagement below-
