The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh officially the Queen Elizabeth II Canal and visited the iconic ‘Kelpies’ in Falkirk, Scotland on July 5th.

The Queen and Duke boarded the Wooden Spoon boat, which led a flotilla along the Queen Elizabeth II Canal. On the boat, they learned about the £43m Helix Project which has transformed underused land for public use. At the ‘Kelpies’, the Queen and Duke met sculptor Andy Scott, saw the inside of one of the structures and unveiled a plaque. Inspiration for The Kelpies came from the horses which pulled boats along the towpaths of the Forth & Clyde & Union Canals. The Queen and Duke also saw the visitor centre at the site of the Kelpies.

The Queen wore pink tweed coat and hat, pairing her customary Three Strand Pearl Necklace with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Badge and the Royal Regiment of Scotland Badge. The Duke of Edinburgh wore a dark suit with a dark tie.
