Queen Sonja of Norway

Happy Birthday to Queen Sonja of Norway! Born Sonja Haraldsson, she grew up in Oslo, and received a diploma in dressmaking and tailoring. In 1959, she met Crown Prince Harald of Norway, though the couple weren’t allowed to marry until 1968. The couple have two children, Princess Märtha Louise and Crown Prince Haakon. Crown Princess Sonja became ‘First Lady’ right after her wedding, since her mother-in-law had died in 1954. In 1991, her father-in-law died, and the couple succeeded as King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway. The Queen enjoy’s art and culture, and for her 80th Birthday, King Harald gifted her a stable, which has been converted into an art gallery, to be unveiled today. King Harald and Queen Sonja had a lavish joint 80th Birthday celebration in May, which included a Banquet, Lunch on the Royal Yacht, and a Gala Dinner.
