Prince and Princess of Wales in Canada, 1983

Canada is celebrating their 150th Anniversary of Confederation on July 1st. The British Royal Family is also the Royal Family of Canada, and the country holds a special significance as the place most visited by the Queen. The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will be in attendance at a few events celebrating the event. In the run up to July 1st, we are covering previous Royal Tours of Canada. The Prince and Princess of Wales landed in Halifax, Nova Scotia on June 14th, 1983, when they attended the Official welcome ceremony, reviewed the guard, and signed the guest book.

On the evening of Day 2, June 15, the Prince and Princess (wearing a Gina Fratini gown with Queen Mary’s Lovers Knot Tiara) attended a t a State Dinner hosted by Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau at the Hotel Nova Scotian in Halifax.

The next day, the Prince and Princess of Wales visited the towns of Bridgewater and Shelburne in Nova Scotia.

On June 17, the Prince and Princess moved to New Brunswick, where they spent the day in St. John. The next day, the couple visited Charlo and Campbellton, where they received a gift of gloves from the Mic Mac Indians in Charlo. In the evening, the Prince and Princess (wearing a blue gown with the Spencer Tiara) attended a formal dinner at the Saint John Convention Centre in Saint John, New Brunswick.

On June 20th, the couple visited Ottawa, where they attended the grand ceremonial welcome, and went on a walkabout. In the evening, the Prince and Princess of Wales (wearing a sugar pink gown with Queen Mary’s Lovers Knot Tiara) attended a State Dinner at Rideau Hall in Ottawa, hosted by the Governor General and Viceregal Consort.

On June 21st, the Prince and Princess had a series of engagements in Ontario, and in the evening, enjoyed a Barbecue at Kingsmere Farm near Ottawa,

On June 23rd, the Prince and Princess of Wales had a series of engagements in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and in the evening the couple (with the Princess wearing a yellow gown with Queen Mary’s Lovers Knot Tiara and a heart-shaped diamond necklace, a gift from her husband when she gave birth to Prince William) attended a State Dinner in St. John’s.

On June 28th, the Prince and Princess were in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, which included a visit to the Charlottetown Driving Park to watch track races.

On June 29th, the Prince and Princess of Wales moved to Edmonton, where they visited Alberta’s Legislature Building and opened the World University Games. In the evening, the couple donned Edwardian fashion for a Klondike evening barbeque at Ford Edmonton.

The Prince and Princess attended the World University Games for the next few days, including the Princess’s 22nd Birthday on July 1st.

The last event for the Prince and Princess of Wales was a State Dinner at Government House in Edmonton, where the Princess (wearing a red lace gown with the Spencer Tiara) received gifts for her birthday.
