Dutch State Visit to Italy

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of The Netherlands are on a 4-day State Visit to Italy and the Vatican from June 20-23 to strengthen political, economic and cultural ties between the two countries.

The Dutch State Visit to Italy began in Rome, where Italian President Sergio Mattarella received King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of The Netherlands at a Welcome Ceremony at the Quirinal Palace.

Afterwards, the King and Queen had a meeting with the Chairman of the Italian Senate, Pietro Grasso, and a lunch meeting with Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni.

Later, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima visited the Altare della Patria, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where they laid a wreath. They also met with the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Laura Boldrini, and talked to the Mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi.

In the evening, President Mattarella hosted a State Banquet at the Quirinal Palace in honour of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. Both the King and President gave speeches.

For the day events, King Willem-Alexander wore a navy suit with an orange tie later changing into a mauve tie. Queen Máxima wore a pale pink Natan dress with a Fabienne Delvigne hat and rose quartz earrings, brooch, and bracelets. For the Banquet, King Willem-Alexander wore Black Tie. Queen Máxima wore a Jan Taminiau red evening gown (from King Willam-Alexander’s 50th Birthday) with the Mellerio Ruby Tiara, necklace, and earrings.

Also present at the Banquet were King Willem-Alexander’s cousin Prince Jaime and Princess Viktória of Bourbon-Parma (who wore the base of the Antique Pearl Tiara).

  1. Queen Maxima was absolutely stunning in that gorgeous red dress! Not to mention that her ruby parure is exquisite- especially the necklace! It’s so nice to see they met Prince Jaime and his wife Viktoria at the banquet. No doubt he and his wife were there because he is the Dutch Ambassador to the Holy See. It’s so very excellent that the Dutch Royal House has a Jewel Foundation so that Princess Viktoria could wear a beautiful diadem as well!
