Trooping the Colour 2017

Members of the British Royal family celebrated the Queen’s Official Birthday by attending the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony in London on June 17th. They rode in carriages to inspect the guards at Horse Guards Parade and then watched a flypast on the Balcony of Buckingham Palace.

The Queen released a statement in the morning, before the Trooping the Colour, calling for unity after the recent tragedies in the UK. The Queen and Duke also observed a minute’s silence for the victims of the Grenfell Tower Fire in London this week.

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh’s carriage was followed by the Prince of Wales, Duke of Cambridge, and Princess Royal on Horseback, the Duchess of Cornwall, Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry, Duke of York, Earl of Wessex, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and the Duke of Kent in carriages as they rode down the Mall from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards Parade.

The national anthem was played as the Queen and members of the Royal Family arrived for the Trooping the Colour ceremony and the Queen’s Parade. The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh inspected the guards from a carriage, unlike horseback of previous years. Later, the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh watched the Queen’s Parade from a platform. This year, the Irish Guards ‘trooped’ their colour.

Afterwards, the royals in carriages rode back to Buckingham Palace, and gathered on the balcony to greet the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh’s carriage, before retreating inside for lunch. There was the Changing of the Guard, after which the public streamed into the Mall, and lined up to await the arrival of the whole family for the flypast.
